Mr. Caffyn has a strong personal interest in developing environmentally friendly renewable energy, which has resulted in a dedication to uncovering new technologies, business models and financing that rapidly expand the deployment of renewable energy. To that end, Mr. Caffyn is the Chairman of UPC Solar, Solar Integrated Technologies, Wind City Oil and Gas and was the founder and inaugural Chairman of UPC Wind (now firstwindSM). In addition, Mr. Caffyn is also Managing Partner of UPC Capital Partners and UPC Energy Partners. He spent the first part of his career in project financing for wind, cogeneration, hydro, solar, geothermal, waste-to-energy and biomass energy projects with GE Capital, Heller Financial, Inc., and several private companies. Mr. Caffyn personally oversaw the establishment and construction of the largest wind energy company in Italy — Italian Vento Power Corporation. Mr. Caffyn received a BA in Finance and Quantitative Methods from Babson College in 1981.
Mr. Brochu has over twenty years experience in providing leadership to start-up companies. This includes identifying market opportunities, raising capital, creating high-performance organizations and nurturing new technologies into mature products. Prior to being appointed CEO, Mr. Brochu was Senior Vice President, Commercial Development and responsible for developing the industrial and education markets. Before joining UPC Solar, Mr. Brochu was Executive Vice President of Acumence, a business intelligence software company, with responsibility for the company’s sales, marketing and business development activities. Prior to joining Acumence, David was Vice President of Sales and Marketing for SmartSignal Corporation, a provider of predictive maintenance software to the manufacturing, power generation and transportation industries. Mr. Brochu has also been Director of Sales at Wonderware Corporation, a division of Invensys and leader in industrial automation software. Mr. Brochu holds a Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Mr. Sobol is responsible for project development and management of UPC Solar’s project portfolio in the western United States. He has over 10 years’ experience developing a myriad of capital energy projects, from initial concept to full commissioning. Mr. Sobol led the successful development of wind and natural gas projects in excess of $4 billion and 5,000 MW in both the eastern and western United States. Prior to joining UPC Solar, Mr. Sobol led the Eastern Seaboard development strategy for LS Power and was a VP at Panda Energy International, where he held key responsibility for the IPP business development strategy in several regions of the U.S. and also successfully developed power projects in Latin America. Mr. Sobol holds a B.A. from Westminster University in London.
